The past few weeks, my group has been focused on the appeals of rhetoric used to talk about alcohol. I believe that once alcohol is introduced to a person, they are more apt to want to drink it. Alcohol is used for recreational purposes and to "take the edge off".
Majority of the articles I read while reviewing the rhetoric used to talk about this topic, I realized advocates for drinking simply used pathos. This drug is not harmful if being responsible, everyone does it, it is fun; therefore, it speaks for itself. The benefit of drinking is to have fun. Everyone wants to have fun.
The dangers of alcohol are severe, especially to those who are genetically predisposed to alcoholism. Logos and statistics clearly shape alcohol as dangerous. There are more dangers to drinking than benefits. Moderate drinking benefits specific cardiovascular diseases, yet drinking too much may danger your liver, cardiovascular system, etc.
Personally, I think anything can be dangerous if not moderated or tamed by regulations. The laws and regulations pertaining alcohol is very helpful in the process of preventing accidents due to drinking. I also grew up in a family with alcoholics who let it tear down the relationships they had with immediate family. Overall, rhetoric and discussion over alcohol will always be controversial in my opinion.
Alcohol can be seen as a good or a bad thing. Some people see it as bad because of Alcoholism, and accidents that occur when alcohol is being used such as car accidents. But alcohol can also be seen as a good thing if you are using it correctly. I agree with the point you made about the opinions of alcohol always being controversial because there isn't one correct answer, everyone sees the issue of this topic differently.
ReplyDeleteI would agree partly that people drink to have fun but not everyone. I mean alcohol can be very addictive and I believe some people drink it that know they shouldn't and they know its not fun its just that they are so addicted there body is telling them they need it. Also I agree that alcohol can be very dangerous I mean we see it all over the world people being abusive to there loved ones and the ones that operate a vehicle under the influence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the idea that it is good to have regulations while drinking. Some people in this world can go overboard when it comes to alcohol and consuming it. It can definitely get a lot of people in bad incidents and in trouble. I think alcohol would be viewed much better if more people followed the regulations.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement that people who are exposed to alcohol at a younger age or more commonly are more likely to want to drink it and think that it is okay to drink on a regular basis. I also agree with your statement that the dangers of alcohol can be severe especially when it is exposed to someone who is genetically predisposed to alcoholism. There are a lot of alcoholics in my family as well and I believe that is is a genetic disease. I also agree that the rhetoric surrounding alcohol will always be a controversial topic in the public eye.
