Animal Rights and Testing

`For my class presentation, my topic was animal rights. There are many different options about animal rights and rhetoric is used in many ways to persuade the audience. The three types of rhetoric are Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Ethos is based on an argument of character. Pathos is an argument based on emotions and Logos is based on an argument of logic and evidence. The logos of animal rights is using statistics and evidence for animal testing. The California Veterinary Medical Association says that almost all medical breakthroughs were because of animal testing. They had a list of vaccines that were made available because of animal testing. The pathos of animal testing and animal rights is the appealing to the death of animals and the torture. The pathos is stronger because most people have issues with torturing innocent animals and killing them for the possibility of a product that may or may not work. Using rhetoric is a smart choice in persuading the audience for or against animal rights.

  1. I agree that the use of pathos is very strong when trying to persuade or convince an audience one way or the other. I also believe that pathos could be used on both sides of the argument surrounding animal testing and animal rights. Pathos can be used for animal testing by providing images of people with diseases like polio and others that would have never been possible if it wasn't for the use of vaccines that were discovered through animal testing. I agree with you that all forms of rhetoric work great in persuading your audience to share common beliefs or values as you, and I also agree that the use of pathos is probably the most effective form because it focuses on peoples emotions and people are largely driven by their emotions, especially when it comes to something that they really care about.
